4 Lipsticks That Take You from Summer to Fall

Lipstick is one of the easiest and the fastest forms of self-care. When I’m exhausted, I put on my brightest lipstick to distract from my tired eyes. If it’s a cloudy day, I bring my own sunshine with a bright lip. Plus, most days, I don’t have the time for a full face of makeup but lipstick is always a must and when I put it on, I feel brand new.

Fall is peaking around the corner and while it's not quite time for the oxblood, wine, and deep reds, there are some transitional lip colors that work perfectly for summer and are a great introduction to the fall.

Here are the colors I've been enjoying for such an in-between time as this.

But first we prep.

Even the creamiest of formulas work better on a smooth canvas. So, I exfoliate my lips on an as needed basis and it helps the lipstick glide on easily, without the patchiness that can happen when your lips are dry.

My lip scrub is a very simple combo of olive oil and white sugar that I keep it stored in a container in my bathroom. I VERY gently rub a small amount all over my lips and leave it on while I shower as a deep moisturizer, then I wash it off. The oil left on your lips afterwards makes it so you don’t even need a lip balm.

Pro Tip: If you find that your lips are consistently dry, there are 2 things to check 1) How’s your water and salt intake? Get your water intake up and ease up on the salty foods to make sure you’re hydrating your skin from the inside. 2) Have you been using an old lipstick or lip balm? These products do have an expiration date. If you see any white spots or if they have a foul odor – toss them out.

Now back to the lipsticks. In no particular order...

Pat McGrath MatteTrance Lipstick: Magenta

This color is a beautiful magenta with a comfortable matte finish.

Most matte lipsticks are very drying but this one is soft and comfortable to wear. It doesn't claim to be a long wearing formula but I find that that this lasts for hours even through eating and drinking.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified: Candied

This creamy liquid lipstick is an electric red with a satin finish. This color is a showstopper, a great orangey-red that would look great on any skin tone.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified: Candied

Bite Beauty is a brand that I have worn and sworn by for over 5 years. In my opinion, they have one of the best formulas in the industry. All their shades are highly pigmented, creamy and their ingredients are clean, so you can feel good about what you're putting on your lips. I highly recommend checking this brand out, if you haven't already. And now is a great time because many of their liquid lipsticks are being sold at 50% off.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified: Supreme

This is a rich fuchsia liquid lipstick that's a great night time and work appropriate color.

Rocking Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified in Supreme

This deep yet bright red with a satin finish is another great versatile red in lipstick for those who prefer the ease and control of a traditional lipstick over a liquid.
